The Variation Effect settings should be of particular interest. To make things a little easier, we have compiled
a table with the Sys-Ex messages required for Variation Effect parameters 1 – 10. Each parameter’s control
range (VAL) depends on the Effect Type selected. We have included a list of parameters for our favourite
effects:
Table: Variation Effect Settings via Sys-Ex
As you can see, only some effects utilize all 10 parameters. Some parameters (such as Delay times & EQ
frequencies) will require the aid of the Effects Data Assign tables found in the manual’s appendix (pages 25
- 26).
Fade Out
Many songs don’t end with an arranged end part but fade out instead. This could be achieved with volume
controllers for each Part. A more elegant (and more consistent) solution is to gradually fade down the Master
Volume. Unfortunately this can only be done via Sys-Ex.
The file “SYSFADE” (TOOL Disk, “SYSEX” folder) contains a pre-programmed Master Volume fade over 8
bars. You can simply copy this part to the end of your song and then forget about the fade-out.
You should bear in mind though that the CS2x won’t make another noise until it receives another Master Vol-
ume event larger than 0, or until you change mode. The latter happens automatically each time a song is
started due to the initialisation.
Random Pan
Lively Pan modulations loosen any sequencer arrangement and create a “spacey” atmosphere. The CS2x
achieves this easily but effectively with “Random Pan”
. This function is available in every CS2x mode: In the
Performance Layers using the Pan
and “Rndm” parameters (below -63) and in the Multi Parts via the this
Sys-Ex message: (F0) 43 10 4C 08 nn 0E 00 (F7). Replace “nn” with the desired MIDI channel (0 - 15 for
MIDI Ch. 1 - 16). Ensure that you don’t follow the Sys-Ex message with a Pan Controller message (010) as
this would negate the Random Pan setting.
