Basic playback operations for discs and USB devices

To search backward/forward
You can search a desired point within a track during
playback or pause.
For backward search, press and hold b.
For forward search, press and hold a.

You can also search using MULTI JOG and MODE on the
front panel. Push MULTI JOG or MODE during playback or
pause, and rotate MULTI JOG counterclockwise/clockwise for
backward/forward search.
To cancel search, press MODE on the front panel. Or, push
MULTI JOG or h/e on the front panel, or
h on the remote
control. In this case, the search mode continues for 4 seconds
and “Play” (or “Pause”) flashes in the front panel display.
You can go back to search during this period by rotating
MULTI JOG.
No sound is heard when you search during pause.
For MP3 and WMA files, pause can be canceled when search
starts.
To skip tracks
To skip to the start of the current track, press b
(or rotate MULTI JOG on the front panel
counterclockwise).
To skip to the next track, press a
(or rotate MULTI JOG on the front panel
clockwise).
To skip to the previous track, press b twice
(or rotate MULTI JOG on the front panel
counterclockwise quickly).
To specify a track for playback
Use the number key(s) to enter the track number you
want to play, and press
h.

Alternatively, press the desired number and wait a few seconds
until the number is confirmed.
Depending on the conditions of recording such as software
recording setting, this unit may not be able to play a disc or
USB device in the order the tracks were recorded.
For an MP3 or WMA disc/USB device, the number assigned to
each file corresponds to the file sequence in the disc/USB
device, not in the individual folders.
To select a folder/file for an MP3 or WMA
format file
1 For disc playback, press FOLDER to
select a folder, and press ENTER.
For USB device playback, press FOLDER
to select a folder.
2 Press FILE to select a file.
3 Press ENTER to start playback of the
selected folder/file.
About MP3 or WMA files
You can play back MP3 or WMA files recorded on
your CD-R, CD-RW, or USB device. This unit
regards folders in a disc/USB device as albums, and
files as tracks as shown below. Folder hierarchy is
disregarded.
What is MP3?
“MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3)” is a standard technology
and format for compressing an audio sequence into a
small-sized file (see page 38). It preserves the original
level of sound quality when played. Some MP3 files have
the ID3 tag information. ID3 tag means the metadata
recorded on MP3 files such as song titles, artist names,
etc.
What is WMA?
“WMA (Windows Media Audio)” is a Microsoft digital
audio file format similar to MP3 (see page 38). It can
compress files at a higher rate than MP3.
